Students of the Year Kansas City
AVID Wolves For a Cure | AVID Wolves For a Cure's Campaign Team
We Are AVID Wolves for a Cure
We are Luke Nelson & Tyler Glass, freshman at Blue Valley Southwest High School and we are Timberwolves! Together we attend a class called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). We both like helping others and doing good. When the Students of the Year program was presented we were excited for the opportunity! Because the program is designed for high school students to develop and practice leadership, entrepreneurship, marketing and project management while benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), AVID saw a natural alignment and is allowing us class time to help reach our goal.
Now we are AVID Wolves for a Cure, campaigning for the fight against blood cancers, the chance to positively impact our school and the certainty to grow as individuals. We are competing with 9 other student teams in the Mid-America Chapter. Should our team raise the most money, not only will that money raised benefit cancer research but our school will receive a $1,000 grant to the program we choose and we will share a $2500 scholarship.
The chase begins on February 17th and runs through April 7th. We have a $10,000 goal and we humbly ask for your support! All donations are 100% tax deductible!
Sincerely,
About Students of the Year (SOY)
We are honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of our local, young patient hero, Camryn Beggs, who is currently battling T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Each dollar donated on this page is a vote for us, AVID Wolves for a Cure! If we raise the most money at the end of the seven weeks we will be named Students of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens like us.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
