Hello! My name is Katie DeGirolamo and I am a 10th grader at Frederick High School. I am very active in my school community as I am in Student Government, Sophomore Exect and I help out with a lot of volunteer work not only at school but around my community as well. I am very active in sports as well, I play softball, volleyball and swim for Frederick High School and i also play softball and volleyball for club/travel teams.

I am very excited to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign to raise as much as possible for their mission. I chose to become a part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Campaign because I want to take a part in helping my community and be an advocate for blood cancer patients and their stories to make sure their voices are heard. There are many inspiring stories told around us in our community from local students who were affected and battling blood cancer. These stories are touching and help me and others see a new standpoint with all the ups, downs, good and bad moments of the fight. I want to help bring our community closer together and raise as much as we can for the people in need.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients 
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more. 
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
