Hi! I am Elena Feuer, a tenth grade student at Governor Thomas Johnson High School. I am excited to be working as a part of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign. My goal is to raise as $5,000 for LLS’s mission and in honor of my best friends' mom, Jennifer Leach.

Did you know that the research and achievements of LLS help many different types of cancer? That is why I joined this campaign. Advancements in one type of cancer treatment means advancements in all cancer treatments. Too many people know someone with cancer, whether it's a friend, parent, or child. Your donation will help support a family who just received the news that their loved one has cancer or be the funding of a breakthrough in research so that more people win the fight.

I decided to dedicate my time to LLS and SVOY because cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States and we have the ability to change that. So many people know someone that has died or been affected by cancer and for me it was my best friends' mom. My friends were only 6 and 9 when their mom passed and it is hard for me to imagine that so many people have to go through that same experience of losing someone to cancer. 

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
