Chisom Onukwugha | Cancel Cancer

Chisom's Student Visionaries of the Year Maryland Fundraiser

Mar 31, 2023

Greetings, my name is Chisom Onukwugha and I am a candidate on Team “Cancel Cancer”. I am 18 years old, and I’m a current Senior at Oakland Mills High School. I serve as the Parliamentarian in the National Honor Society and the Secretary of the Art National Honor Society. In addition, I am an active member of the Black Student Union, Active Minds, the OMHS Alpha Achiever’s program, and the founder of my own program/organization called “F.U.L.L. S.T.E.A.M. Ahead!”. I enjoy singing, drawing, playing tennis, and learning about biology.

I can confidently say that the four most distinctive aspects of my personality are my outgoing and humorous nature, my artistic prowess, my passion for academia, and my Nigerian heritage. Since I was six years old, I have been doodling, sketching, crafting, painting, etc. Since the moment I started school, I have fostered a genuine interest in academics. Especially in relation to my science-based courses. You may like to know that biology is my favorite subject. I aspire to one day get a degree in biology before attending medical school. I have always been proud of my Nigerian heritage and being from such a culturally diverse community like Oakland Mills not only allows me to share it with others but also allows me to immerse myself in other cultures and traditions.

I decided to join Team Cancel Cancer because I have long been an avid supporter of those fighting cancer. Throughout my life, I have had close relationships with people who have struggled with cancer. My goal is to not only promote awareness of (blood) cancer but to also contribute funding to research towards the eradication of the ailment.

The satisfaction alone of knowing that I am making a difference in helping so many families and individuals through this campaign is all the satisfaction I need. I hope that you will help us spread awareness, reach our goal, and follow us on this journey toward fighting cancer!

Thank you very much for your support!

Student Visionaries of the Year:

- Look to the future—and see infinite possibilities.

- They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.

- They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and spread the word to friends and family who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
