Riley Troxell | Rebels for a Cure

Riley's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 01, 2022

Hi, my name is Riley Troxell and I am a co-candidate on my team, Rebels for a Cure.  Currently, I am a sophomore at South Hagerstown High School, and I'm excited and appreciative to be given the opportunity to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

I first learned about this campaign last year through my friend Mae, who was raising money for the campaign through a virtual telethon.  Mae, now one of my co-candidates, asked my friend Lily and me to join the campaign, and we were both excited to.  While I joined this campaign to help fight blood cancer, this campaign also has a significant personal meaning to me.  My grandfather, Thomas Troxell, was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), which developed into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), causing him to pass away on January 1, 2017.  My grandfather is my "why" for joining this campaign, and I strive to help others suffering from blood cancer.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.  My grandmother, Helen Troxell, passed from a long battle with breast cancer in October of 2012, and she has also inspired me to join this campaign as the search for treatments continues.

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!  For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org.

My aunt was recently (as of last week) diagnosed with leukemia. Luckily she is at a good hospital and her team feels confident that she can receive treatment and continue to live a long life. I know that it is because of research through organizations like this that treatments are available.
