Never Underestimate the Power of Ashley

Over the majority of my lifetime, I've seen the effects of cancer on all people including families, parents and friends. Cancer in itself is a painful and

tough battle. I've decided to join Team Fly4ACure in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Students of the Year Campaign 2022 to fight for loved ones and families who have experienced all of the affects of cancer as a whole.

My cousin Ashley Lindsey passed away at the young age of 17 after being diagnosed with Acute-Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Athough I've never gotten to know Ashley personally, I'v heard many stories and have learned little by little about her over the years. Ashley always had an adult-like sense of humor and knew how to light up a room in an instant. Ashley had shown kindness to anyone she'd meet and was loving to those around her. She was also heavily involved in her community; she played soccer in elementary school and in high school she was a part of the New Albany High School marching band and track team, as well as a certified lifeguard at the New Albany pool.

Although I unfortunately never got to meet Ashley, her story and through the inspiration of my Aunt and Uncle, is the reason I'm fundraising for LLS this year and for many years to come. I've gotten the opportunity to create change and to continue keeping Ashley's memory alive. I'm ready to fundraise as much as I can to help patients with all blood cancers to hopefully reach the end goal of a world without blood cancer.

I wanted to thank the Lindsey family for sharing more about who Ashley was with me. I love you all so very much.

About LLS & My Why

I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. My personal fundraising goal is $5,000 and I can't do it without your help!! The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student OR Students of the Year.

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

This year I'm fighting against blood cancers in this campaign in honor of my cousin Ashley Lindsey who had passed away at the young age of 17 after being diagnosed with Acute-Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 1999. Although I've never gotten to meet Ashley, her story is the reason I'm fundraising for LLS this year and for many years to come. I've gotten the opportuinity this year to create change and to continue keeping Ashley's memory alive. I'm reading to fundraise as much as I can to help patients with all blood cancers to hopefully reach the end goal of a world without blood cancer.

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well. You are saving lives one donation at a time.

Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
