Hello! My name is Gitika Saravanan, and I am currently a junior at Mount Hebron High School. I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. However, this is not the only reason I have chosen to work with LLS. 

My grandfather was diagnosed with CNS (Central Nervous System) Lymphoma at age 74 in August of 2009. In September 2009, he underwent an excision of the lymphoma followed by postoperative radiotherapy. My grandfather remained cancer-free for only three months before a recurrence. He passed away on February 2, 2010. My grandfather is why LLS is such an important cause to my family and myself. Donations to LLS help fund therapies and treatments that save lives. Through your efforts, we can help LLS improve the survival rate for cancer. 

 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
