My name is Bernhard Steinki and I am a sophomore at Gonzaga College High School in Washington DC. My interests include playing sports like soccer, football, tennis, and crew. I enjoy traveling to see my family. In school, I am interested in history and science and I am a part of the Latino American Student Organization (LASO).  I am participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Campaign as a member of the White Out Blood Cancer 2 Liv. The campaign starts on February 5th and ends on March 26  

 I have never had someone in my immediate life be affected with either lymphoma or leukemia but I experienced people dying of other cancers. One person specifically would be my grandfather who had lung and stomach cancer and died when I was 7. This tragedy made me want to help in the fight against cancer. This is where the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society comes in. 

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a 501 charitable organization founded in 1949, is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting blood cancer in the world. The LLS's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Although they specialize in these cancers many of the treatments and data discovered in their trials also help when progressing towards other cancerous diseases. Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
  

I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
