Hi, my name is Blaise McCarty and I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a member of team Rebels for a Cure and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. I am a sophomore at South Hagerstown High School and I am so ready to help LLS cure cancer with the support from donors like as you. 

There are many reasons for joining this campaign, most importantly the great work that LLS does while funding research and treatments that help cure cancer. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers. Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

I personally joined this campaign after hearing about Students of the Year (SOY) last year from my friend Mae. During elementary school I had done other LLS programs like Pennies for Patients and was excited to hear that I would have another chance to make a difference at a higher level with SOY. This year, two of my other close friends Riley and Lillia also became candidates with Mae and I was ecstatic to be asked to join their team and help cure blood cancer. My grandfather had colon cancer, which he was thankfully able to recover from, but it showed me the significance of groups like LLS that fund research for blood cancer which also help find treatment for many other cancers.
