Recently, I became a part of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year program, seven-week leadership development and fundraising program. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is dedicated to funding blood cancer treatments for those in need. Blood cancer is the most common type of cancer and someone is diagnosed every 3 minutes. We are writing to you today to ask for your support for our campaign and help my team and me reach our fundraising goal of $50,000. With your help, LLS is able to fund research that could save and improve the lives of many.  

In August 2015, identical twins Kenedi and Kendal Breyfogle were diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at just 3 months old. They went through 4 rounds of chemotherapy and were eventually released in remission and were able to finally go home. In February 2017, Kendal’s cancer had relapsed, and it was coming back faster than ever. Unfortunately, Kendal passed away on September 7, 2017, despite their greatest efforts. The answer as to why the treatment worked for one twin and not the other was never given, leaving millions of other children and adults around the world in danger as well. 

Listening to stories like this empowers my team to fundraise and help find the answer to the lives being lost every day. LLS has been working for 72 years and we hope to soon find a cure to blood cancer and other cancers as well. So far, because of supporters like you, LLS has helped better and advance 14 out of 17 blood cancer treatment options.
