This past summer I was nominated for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of The Year Campaign. In a seven-week period, I will be raising money for research to find a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma. I am competing against several other students in this program to see who can raise the most money.  I have put together a team of 10 committed fundraisers and we will be working towards treaching our fundraising goal. I am sending this letter to ask for support for my campaign and LLS’ mission to find a cure for blood cancer and improve the quality of life of their patients. 

I was especially drawn to this fundraiser as a close family friend of mine had a very threatening encounter with Leukemia. He stayed strong and was, fortunately, able to survive it. Hearing his story inspired me to learn about Leukemia and life-threatening cancers, and help in any way I can. Being nominated for this program was a dream come true for me, as I want to make as much of a difference as I can so that someday nobody will have to go through the terrible journey of Leukemia that can often end in death. After my friend survived Leukemia, he was nominated for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Person of the Year and raised $118,000, winning him the title of LLS Man of The Year. My parents participated in his campaign, and through them, I was able to learn a lot about the program and help as much as I could, which was an eye-opening experience for me. Hearing the stories of his journey through cancer and watching how optimistic he is despite going through such a horrible thing shows a level of gratefulness that I hope I can have one day.
