I am really hoping for corporate support to help me reach my goal! There are many ways companies can get involved, including matching gifts, sponsorships, advertising space and auction items. Please see the links below for the fantastic benefits of sponsorship. There are many levels. Of course, I would be happy to walk you through the steps or talk with you about what the best opportunity is for you. Please reach out to me at sburns0996@gmail.com and I’ll contact you about next steps.
Samantha's Students of the Year Fundraiser
As many of you know, I have been an active supporter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for the last 10 years and so many of you have helped me in raising over $250.000 to date. With Light The Night going virtual, I decided to redirect my efforts this year in a new way through the SOY Campaign. Same goal, to support hundreds of families battling blood cancer like I did, just a different approach. I am counting on your continued support as LLS is at the heart of the continued advancements that are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled!
The short story, for those who aren’t as familiar already - I was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when I was 7. My mom noticed strange bruising on my legs one day after summer camp in 2011. She had the mother's intuition that something was wrong and did some research. What she read, pointed to Leukemia. After a quick blood draw, my doctor pulled her aside and said “You’re right, I’m so sorry”. I had to be hospitalized immediately. That was the day I started my painfully long journey of frightening radiation, life-threatening surgeries, sickening chemotherapy, unstoppable infections, and endless support. Although filled with lots of pain and tears, my journey also consisted of lots of smiles, courage, and love. From diagnosis, through treatment, infections, life support and recovery, I have had the love, support and encouragement to help me through. Through my journey I learned so much including the power of helping others. Two months after I started treatment, I saw a poster for LLS while on one of my wheelchair sprints around the hospital. LLS leads a walk every year that helps to raise money to support families with the myriad of struggles facing them as their child suffers through treatment. I participated that year, my first year from a stroller, unable to complete the walk physically, and continued every year. In the hospital, around Christmas time when my family and friends would bring in presents, I couldn’t help but think, “what about all of the other kids?” There were so many kids on the inpatient cancer ward, families in the hospital that weren’t fortunate enough to be able to support their kids, let alone bring them presents. I felt the urgent need to do something, so I started a teddy bear drive that I continued every year around Christmas, bringing in stuffed animals for those children who don’t get much on Christmas. I capitalized on other opportunities along the way to help; including the 2012 butterfly bag campaign with HomeGoods, which raised more than $680,000 for Dana Farber and The Jimmy Fund. I want to do more.
For my 10th year, I have set what I know is an aggressive but achievable goal of raising $100,000. I’m reaching out to you because I need you. With your help, I know I can do it. Please consider making a donation to my campaign to help me reach this goal and support hundreds of families battling blood cancer like I did.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer! All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
Please visit my website often and bring friends and colleagues who would also like to donate! Spread the word. Forward this to everyone you know. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support! I have been blessed to make a full recovery and return to the things I love, and I want every kid facing blood cancer to have the same.

10 years, wow! I remember that frightening time so vividly. Unfortunately since then I've known too many other kids who have had to fight this terrible battle. But Sam, what you have done in 10 years is amazing for anyone, and extra because you've been doing it while still a kid yourself. I was rooting and praying for you in your fight 10 years ago and am cheering for you and your incredible accomplishments now. Will continue to support you and this valiant effort until the day we don't have to anymore. Go get 'em, Sam!
