Welcome to Kenneth Xu's SOY Fundraising Page!
My name is Kenneth Xu. I am a sophomore at the Acton Boxborough Regional High School. I am participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year program, a student led fundraising campaign with the goal of raising money to fight against blood cancer.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a non-profit organization with the goal of curing blood cancer. LLS was founded by a married couple who had lost their son to blood cancer. This traumatic experience pushed them to dedicate their lives to trying to cure something that they had so reasonlessly lost their son to.
I joined the Student of the Year program because I wanted to help too. Before, I had considered cancer as something foreign, something that happens to a small amount of people. However, after meeting one of my mom's friend's daughter, Langtin Ren, I realized that blood cancer can happen to anyone. Millions of americans have been diagnosed with blood cancer; it is the third most deadly cancer in existence.
Every 3 minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 9 minutes, someone dies of one. LLS's mission is made of 3 pillars; first, to fund research for a cure to blood cancer; second, to support and educate patients undergoing treatment and those who have completed treatment; and third, to advocate for policies allowing affordable access to treatment. However, these main pillars of their mission overlap with other areas of disease research. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
LLS has raised over 1.3 billion dollars in support of a cure. Your donation may seem significant compared to that number, but every donation will help lead the way to a better future. That 1.3 billion was only achieved through the help of regular people like you pitching in to help this noble cause.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. However, blood cancer is still a deadly disease. We cannot afford to stop here. Although it may not seem like it, each dollar is a step towards a cure for blood cancer first, and eventually all diseases.
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please tell friends and family about our cause and have them visit the site as well.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support.
