The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am extremely excited to be participating alongside Joanie Hafler in the 2023 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign (LLS SVoY). This campaign is a 7-week philanthropic development program for high school students where candidates fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to win the title Student Visionary of the Year. Along the way the students learn teamwork, project management, and entrepreneurship. The Greater Lehigh Valley PA campaign begins on Friday, January 6th and concludes on Saturday, February 25th.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission is to simply beat cancer. However, the process is not as simple. LLS funds approximately 300 active research projects, invests more than $1.5 billion in cancer research, and helps more than 55,000 patients afford treatments. This cannot be done without fundraising and connecting communities. Together the goal of finding a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and Myeloma is in reach. Not only will every dollar raised help the future patients but it will also help the patients today.

I heard about this campaign almost four years ago, well before I truly realized how cancer affects the patients and their families. I immediately fell in love with the campaign, but now it means even more to me. In November 2020 my father went to the doctor for a consistent sore, but he came home with a cancer diagnosis. The next few months were rough, Christmas was not cheerful as bills stacked up and symptoms flooded our lives. Treatments were expensive and tiring. This is something no one should experience. Though he did not have blood cancer, any win against cancer is a huge win for everyone. I am doing this campaign not only for my father but in hopes no child or adult experiences a similar situation to his. I truly believe together beating cancer is in our blood.
