Our names are Lauren Gallagher, Sydney Luciano, and Alexa Catenaro. We are juniors at Easton Area High School. Today we are reaching out to tell you about Students of the Year; a 7 week campaign that raises funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) across the country. 

We would greatly appreciate your support in our campaign so that we can help fulfill LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers. LLS also assists patients and their families as they battle Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, or Myeloma. We have been given an opportunity to help others and we cannot do it without your support.

LLS has been conducting groundbreaking research and is working to find a cure for blood cancer! Unfortunately, about every 3 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer. As of right now, more than one third of blood cancer patients are not able to survive after 5 years of their diagnosis. To put this further into perspective, there are more than 1.3 million people living with or in remission from blood cancers including Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma.

Why are we doing this? We are fundraising in honor of Jena Brodhead, a current teacher at our middle school. She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has been in remission since 2014. Mrs.Brodhead was treated with many chemo treatments that are researched and funded by LLS. This cause is so dear to our hearts because she has not only helped us all through middle school and high school, but is always there for us. Without the technologies funded by LLS we may have never gotten a chance to meet such a wonderful and impactful person. 

After seeing what Mrs.Brodhead and her family went through due to this horrible disease, we are determined to try to make a difference.

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
