My team and I at the Grand Finale last year

Maddie and I in the hospital during her Chemotherapy

I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

I am fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society because blood cancers have had a strong impact on my life.  I am raising money in honor of my best friend Maddie Girard who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2011. Soon after she moved to Manhasset, she was diagnosed and went through six rounds of chemotherapy. From the day she heard the news I stood by her side and held her hand through the process.  After a long 8 months of her chemotherapy and treatments she is now cancer free and has been in remission for 6 years. I have decided to participate in this fundraiser to stand by her side once again and help raise money to find a cure for blood cancer.

Last year my team and I participated in the campaign and raised over $118,000.  This year LLS asked us if we wanted to participate agaoin but in the All-Star division.   An All-Star is a candidate and a team that runs again in the campaign again.  Instead of competing locally on Long Island, we will be expanding our horizons and running against teams from around the country.  When my team and I were asked to run again we had many thoughts about participating again.  Although we could have said no we said yes because cancer doesn’t give up and neither will we!  Every day children are diagnosed and their family and their own lives are drastically changed.

I am asking you to make a donation of any amount!  All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Sincerely,

Casey Roszko and team "For The Love of The Blood"

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!  On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!  For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org.
