Aisha Asad, Zain Baig, and Jenna Semenova | The Curesaders
LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY | Welcome to Our Fundraising Page
Our Team:
We, Aisha Asad, Zain Baig, and Jenna Semenova, have joined together as the “Curesaders.”; we have brought together an exemplary group of students from all around Louisville, and even outside of Louisville, to help us in our campaign. Our goal and mission and The Curesaders is to kick cancer’s butt. Although we are only juniors from Kentucky Country Day School, it is our moral obligation and drive that pushes us to help end this battle against blood cancer once and for all.
We are honored to be candidates in the 2018 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar counts as a vote towards our campaign. The candidate team who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise as much money as we can but also to bring attention to blood cancers like Leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens. LLS is uniquely able to report on the many advances and accomplishments that have occurred since their founding in 1949. From cutting-edge research and precision medicine innovations, to legislative victories that improve access to therapies for cancer patients, LLS plays a leading–and often pioneering–role in the fight against blood cancers. Since 2000, approximately 40 percent of all U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved cancer drugs were for blood cancer, and some are now used to treat other forms of cancer and non-malignant diseases. A “win” for blood cancers, therefore, is a win for the cancer community overall.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
The Students of the Year campaign gives us the power to be empowered by helping others and giving back to the community. No longer will high schoolers only be doing the “busy work” that no one else desires to do in their community service. Rather, we have been given the opportunity to make strides and leaps to potentially save millions of lives. How’s that for busy work? As citizens of the world, it is our moral duty to look out for one another, and to make sure everyone has a chance to enjoy life. No one deserves to be told that they have cancer, and no one deserves to be told that there is not a cure. With your donation, this could all change. We are saving lives not someday, but today. With your support and continued collaboration among researchers, doctors, advocacy organizations, pharmaceutical companies, regulators and patients, we are well on our way to making someday today. Please join the team and help us all fight cancer and visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, we thank you for your support!

My grandmother died of leukemia at a young age and at a time when there were no treatments. Thank you for taking an interest in supporting research to improve the quality of life of those who suffer and for those who may ultimately be cured. Imagine a world without cancer!

To all who have passed and survivors, what a feeling it is to know how bright the future is in the hands of these thoughtful, amazing students already willing to make a difference. A five-time, 19-year brain cancer survivor, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your campaign and I'm honored. Keep up the great work! Tyler Beam

I was incredibly touched by your all's mission. It is so inspiring to see someone so young to have such an amazing work ethic, goal, and determination! I would never have dreamed of doing something like this as a high schooler. Keep up the good work Curesaders!
