Student Visionaries of the Year Northeast Indiana

Marissa GeRue | Team Honoring #13

Marissa's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 31, 2023

I have created a team of committed friends and family to partner with me on this journey. Together, we have set a fundraising goal of $50,000!  The money raised helps LLS, the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers, fund research to advance lifesaving treatments, drive advocacy for policies that protect patient access to these treatments, and provide patients and families with hope, guidance, education and support. Our candidate team is particularly passionate about research and will be representing this area of LLS during my campaign.

Our team's name is Honoring #13, in honor of Owen Scheele, a fellow student and former quarterback at my school, who passed away from Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. This cancer is rare and extremely rare in children. Therefore, we are running our campaign to fund research so LLS can take the money we’ve raised and further research these rare cancers to prevent them from happening in the future.

I chose to accept Student Visionaries of the Year because of the opportunity and connections I could make to people I know who had leukemia or lymphoma. Plus, this is a great way to spread awareness and make a difference. My campaign will provide support to the critical work of LLS in hopes that one day no one will have to grow up without the ones they love. I know that with your help, I can reach my goal and make a direct impact in the fight against blood cancers.

Marissa's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Oct 27, 2022

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
