We had a great purse party which was an huge success today!! Thanks to everyone who came and participated and to my Godmother Rachel for hosting. 

    I am very excited and honored to announce that I am participating in the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2022 Student of the Year Campaign in Northeast Indiana (SOY). If you are unfamiliar with SOY, it is a seven-week campaign between high school students in the Northeast Indiana area to see who can raise the most money for research, education, support, and awareness for blood cancers and those living with a blood cancer.  My goal, with the help of my team, is to raise $60,000 from January 27th to March 18th. I am writing today to ask you for your support in my campaign in the fight against blood cancer. 

     I accepted my nomination because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to truly make an impact in my community. I have previously seen both my Godmother and best friend participate in programs through LLS and they have really inspired me to take part. Two years ago, my godmother, Dr. Rachel Hollingsworth, won the Woman of the Year campaign. Last year I was on my best friend, Emilia Kennedy’s, team where we finished runner-up in the SOY program with raising almost $55,000. I am now thrilled to lead my own team, Team sLICKEN Cancer, in this challenging fight against cancer. 
     Every year there is an “honored hero” of the campaign, and this year our honored hero is Henry. He is five years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in November of 2019 at the age of three. He is currently in treatment and has needed multiple surgeries and intense chemotherapy and steroids, sometimes up to 10 pills per day. According to his mom, while he has his ups and downs, Henry’s treatment is going well overall. Henry is a huge inspiration to me. Despite all that he is going through, he still always has a smile on his face during video calls. Due to the generous donations in the past 50 years, the survival rate of children with leukemia went from 3% to 90%. I believe that we can get it to 100%.
