World Cancer Day

Feb 04, 2022

Hello! Today is world cancer awareness day, and I am going to be telling you about why it is important to donate to LLS today of all the days!

By the time you are done reading this someone is going to have been diagnosed with a blood cancer and their lives changed forever. The treatemnts LLS has been creating new treatments for blood cancers and the survival rates have just gone up! Though most cancer treatments are intended for adult bodies, not children. 80% of childhood cancer surviors devolp a chronic health condition from the treatments they were given. Recently I went into my Survivors clinic, where the doctors go over my treatment with me and things I have to look out for in the future. They pulled out this big long list of 15+ drugs I was on and told me that if I was an adult then I would have only had to take one of those.

In the past 40 years only 4 blood cancer drugs were created for children in mind. That is why I and LLS are so dedicated to raising money to increase this number so no child has to worry about what could happen to them later in life. My doctor who treated me used to tell my family and I that one day the treatment that I went through would be looked at as barbaric. My goal is to make that statement reality.

Please consider donating on this day we honor, celebrate, and pray for cancer patients and cancer survivors around the world. Even one dollar can help save a childs life. So please I beg you and so do so many others to consider donating to this amazing cause.

Weekend number 1 of the campaign! Hope of Heroes: Team Luke

Jan 23, 2022

Happy kickoff season everyone! Donation page is officially open to donations at 12:01am on January 20th going to march 11t! As a lot of you know I had blood cancer when I was nearly 4 years all the way to just shy of my 8th birthday. LLS stepped into my families life very quickly after this diagnosis and provided us relief and support over the next 3 1/2 years of treatment. With all that LLS did for me throughout those years of treatment I signed up for Students of the Year so I can have that same impact on a family.

Around October we had an idea of how to kick off the Students of the Year campaign. Running 48 miles in 48 hours is a crazy thing that created some amazing memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. This is just the start to this wonderful 7 week campaign. We have so much planned and excited for. This campaign and this run are not possible without these amazing people who woke up early with me, listened to the same playlist for 48 miles, and cheered us on the entire way. Remember the donation page is open for 7 weeks and we can end cancer TOGETHER. Any dollar is appreciated. Special shout out to @ourfitclub Angela Quednau Beckius @hse_principal @drewkennedy__ @mattjwalt @lily_rouget @asarb16 @ellienawa10 keep your eyes open for what is coming next in this campaign! Amazing things are going to be happening! Thank you all for your support and belief in our mission. We couldn’t have done this without you.

Students of the Year is a 7 week campaign where students across indiana compete to raise money for 7 weeks. On march 11th the title of “Students of the Year is released” But of course this is about raising money for a cause that has touched me and so many other families.

To kick off this campaign I will be doing a challenge with HSE cross country members, Matt Walters, Lily Rouget, Ellie Nawa, Ayden Sarber, and Drew Kennedy, with the support of the rest of the team. We will be partaking in the 4x4x48 challenge starting January 21st at 12am, this has us waking up and going for a 4 mile run and then 4 hours later we do another 4 mile run at 4am. So many groups are helping us in this venture including Our Fit Club, HSE cross country, and many more! We will be posting where we are going so you can come honk, take pictures and more! If you tag us on Instagram stories @andritsch_soy_2022 you will be entered in to win a prize in a giveaway!
