My name is Ryan DePew and I am currently a senior at Garrett High School. I have been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year campaign. For seven weeks, starting January 14, students across the country will be raising awareness of the research, programs, and advocacy being conducted through LLS, in addition to raising funds to support their mission to cure blood cancers. I got involved with this campaign because I wanted to make an impact to cure cancer and would love the opportunity to share more about it with you, in addition to the great work being conducted by LLS.

LLS’s work is changing the lives of 1.2 million Americans living with a blood cancer. In fact, the treatments that LLS is funding benefits all cancer patients. More than 40% of the new cancer treatment drugs approves but the FDA since 2005 started as blood cancer drugs but are now being applied in other forms of cancer. There are many opportunities for us to work together in this campaign and I/my team and I would greatly appreciate a few minutes of your time to share more with you the many ways that we can partner together to cure cancer once and for all!
