I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Unfortunately, this September my amazing 3-year-old cousin, Victoria, was diagnosed with Lymphoma. It was a shocking reality that this disease really does hurt our kindest and most innocent people, and I become inclined to finding an end to it. On one of her trips to the hospital, my aunt came across a flyer for the Students of the Year program. In essence, my team, composed of a dozen hard working and dedicated high school students and adults, is trying to raise as much money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society until March 16th. 

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Alzheimers and Diabetes. LLS is responsible for funding 40% of cancer treatments since 2000 and their hard work has paid off. In the 1940s, Leukemia was perceived as fatal, having a survival rate of only 4% in children. Today, more than 90% of children diagnosed with Leukemia survive. 

Team Wonder Woman (in honor of Victoria our personal superhero), is trying to raise as much money as we can so no one has to hear the words "you have cancer." Any contribution helps tremendously and is one step closer to making sure one day nobody has to face the hardship that is fighting cancer. 

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
