Cancer's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 10, 2022

On my sixth birthday my dad was diagnosed with Leukemia, specifically Myelodysplastic Syndrome. I was too young to understand what was going on at that time. But I knew my daddy was hurting. And six months later, the day after the fourth of July 2010, my mom told my little sister and me that our daddy died and would not be coming back from the hospital. Beneath the confusion, my six year self understood the consequences. Leukemia changed my life forever.

Today I am competing for the Title of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year. Student of the Year is a seven-week fundraising campaign for highschoolers like me who want to make an impact in the fight against cancer. This campaign gives me the opportunity to raise awareness and funds to support research, and to help families who suffer from Leukemia and Lymphoma like mine.

Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate whose team tallies the most votes earns the title, Student of the Year, which culminates in the Grand Finale Celebration, March 10. My team, the Cancer Crushers, set a goal to raise $30,000 between January 20 and March 9, 2022. I need your help to make this goal possible.

Over the years, support from people like you have been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Thank you,

Nellie

I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
