Ellie's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Mar 07, 2021

Help support our campaign and get a t-shirt in the process! These t-shirts were designed by team member and Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor Jake Bouma and they perfectly embody our mission. This campaign takes a bunch of work, but not half as much as cancer. Help us fight for those who cannot fight for themselves and support the campaign today!

Meet Our Honored Heroes

Mar 07, 2021

Vincent Dillon

Vincent was diagnosed last January with Burkitt Lymphoma, a kind of cancer that can double in size within 24 hours. He became sick extremely quickly and underwent sequential, intense rounds of chemotherapy with little break between treatments. His final treatment was during the beginning of COVID in Iowa. Vincent is in 5th Grade at Grant Ragan Elementary in Waukee and enjoys Star Wars, legos, and playing with his younger siblings.

Kyden Decker

Kyden was diagnosed with neutropenia, a condition describing an abnormally low amount of a kind of white blood cell, when he was only a month old. Last February, Kyden's parents noticed strange bruising and a proneness to falling. Kyden got his labs done in June and his parents received a call requiring him to go up to Iowa City as quickly as possible. That night, Kyden was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at 17 months old. He spent around fifteen weeks in the hospital and was able to go home November 27, 2020. Kyden loves playing with his siblings, watching the Hawkeye games from his hospital room, the University of Iowa campus, and trains!

Why Am I Running?

Jan 13, 2021

As a young adult with aspirations of being a physician, I want to care for as many fellow human beings as possible. I know that my service to the health of others doesn’t start when I graduate from med school or when I finish residency, it starts now. It starts with this challenge. I’m raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help as many people as possible. The LLS mission is to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. I have lived my life viewing cancer from a distance—church members getting diagnosed with lymphoma, family friends battling leukemia, classmates fighting through chemo treatments—and I know that my inexperience with cancer has been a privilege. But now is the time to step in and start serving. It’s my goal to raise at least $20,000 for LLS in 2021 and I need your help to do it.

Here's Why You Should Donate to LLS

Jan 13, 2021

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Welcome!

I encourage you to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. By donating to LLS, you support the many facets of LLS’s mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. My appreciation for your support cannot be overstated — your donation to LLS brings us closer to our goal to end blood cancer and makes an impact for cancer patients and their families.

As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any organization in the world. LLS’s signature fundraising campaigns drive critical support for its mission, including a nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled.

Every facet of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.

Please visit my website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.

On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!

Thank you for supporting this important cause! Our family has seen firsthand the benefits of blood cancer research, but we also know that more research is needed to improve outcomes for all forms of blood cancer, to reduce the harmful side effects of treatment, and to hopefully find a cure.
