Welcome To Our Fundraising Page!

Caroline Gilpin & Emma West

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my Students of the Year fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my website often and bring friends who would also like to donate! I am also excited to announce that the Savannah Students of the Year Grand Finale will take place on March 23, 2018.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!

Our Local Boy and Girl of the Year!

Boy of the Year: Nicholas, 13

Nicholas turned 13 years old in June and lives in Savannah, Georgia. He was diagnosed with B Cell High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL) on April 3, 2015. Immediately following his diagnosis he spent eight days in the hospital where he had surgery for placement of a portacath, received blood and platelet transfusions and started IV and intrathecal chemotherapy. The next year was difficult for Nicholas and his family with very challenging side effects of chemotherapy. On November 28, 2016 Nicholas relapsed. He underwent five additional months of intense chemotherapy in the hospital followed by cranial and total body radiation to prepare him for a stem cell transplant on April 25, 2017. As of May 25, 2017 Nicholas is leukemia free! Today, Nicholas is in the eighth grade at Hancock Day School, enjoys gaming, reading, and playing the piano. Some interesting facts about Nicholas are that he is a penguin enthusiast, has his black belt in taekwondo and loves cheesecake!

Girl of the Year: Alyssa, 13

Alyssa turned 13 years old in August 2017 and lives in Savannah, Georgia. She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on April 1, 2015 at the age of 10. Alyssa first noticed pain in her stomach, went to the hospital and was diagnosed that afternoon. She immediately began treatment following her diagnosis. Alyssa was in and out of the hospital during the year before being admitted to the PIC U with sepsis and c-diff. It was then that they found an abscess on her liver. At this point, Alyssa had a home bond teacher that came to her home for her 6th grade year. Alyssa also had c-diff and sepsis and her mother and grandmother had to give her medication through her port every seven hours for a six week period. Alyssa was able to return to school for her 7th grade year. Alyssa has celebrated the end of her chemo treatment in the summer of 2017. She is now in the eighth grade at Coastal Middle School, enjoys cooking, watching YouTube videos and writing. Her favorite books and movies are the Harry Potter series!
