Together We Can Make a Difference!
We live in a world plagued by cancer. With each passing minute, cancer affects an individual and subsequently their family, their friends, and their community. Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and every nine minutes someone loses their battle against this horrible disease.
A diagnosis of cancer is completely life-altering, everything stops. Years of a patient’s life are dedicated to treatment and medications. Memories of the world are replaced with the walls of a hospital room and countless rounds of chemotherapy. We often hear about the dangers and horrors of cancer but words are often inadequate. We never fully realize how devastating it can be till it's knocking on our doorstep.
In June of 2018, Alivea Cox was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma. That same day she was diagnosed, she was called home to heaven. Just a few months later, one of James' best friends, Malone Tompkins, was diagnosed with Leukemia. In the span of a couple of months, two of our peers had their worlds shattered; it shocked our entire community. As students in high school, we felt helpless, spectators watching a tragedy unfold. Now, LLS has given us the opportunity to make a difference, to move past the sideline and actively help fund the fight against blood cancer. After a long battle, Malone’s story has ended in complete remission, something that we are incredibly grateful for. Almost every community has a connection to cancer in some way and one day, we hope that every battle against cancer can end in remission.
What if I told you that we have the potential to make this world cancer-free?
We are asking you to help us fund the fight for blood cancer victims all across the world. Your donation will help LLS put an end to blood cancer once and for all.
LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting blood cancer. Since 1949, with its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma while improving the quality of life of patients and their families, LLS is making a difference against cancer. Yet, with over 1.3 million people living with or in remission from Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma, LLS has a long road ahead of them.
However, since its creation, LLS has made great strides towards a cure. LLS has invested almost 1.3 billion dollars towards cancer research since 1949. This investment has had astounding results. Since 2017, LLS has helped advance 46 of 53 blood cancer treatments approved by the FDA. This is almost 87% of blood cancer treatments approved by the FDA since 2017! LLS’ work towards a cure for blood cancer has resounding benefits and applications towards a cure for other cancers as well. Many of the most common treatments and therapies originate as blood cancer treatments. The most common treatment, chemotherapy, was established first for Leukemia and was later used to treat other cancers. Cancer cells in the blood are more accessible than those in solid tumors, making it easier to study cancer-causing molecules. As a result, revolutionary approaches in blood cancer are being tested in clinical trials with other cancers and diseases including bone, brain, breast, and lung cancer.
Along with their progress towards a cure, LLS helps victims and their families around the world in their battle against cancer through financial assistance and patient care services. To date, their co-pay assistance program has provided $394 million to help patients pay the hefty co-payments and health insurance premiums. LLS also provides accurate, up-to-date information and free education programs about things such as treatments and the disease itself for patients, caregivers, and professionals.
We've lived in this cancer-filled world for too long; it’s time to fight back. Thus, we ask on behalf of blood cancer victims around the world to give to something that's bigger than yourself. Your tax-deductible donation will help fund the fight against blood cancer all over the world. Only together, can we truly change the fight against blood cancer. We have the power to make a difference today, so why not make it?
