My name is Sydney Bacon and I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program.  This is a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Between the dates of February 21 to April 12, 2019, Alaina Rachlin, my team partner, and I will be fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society under the team name Miracle Makers. Alaina and I both attend St. Andrews School and we are proud to be representing our school in this campaign! There are 14 other teams we are competing against this year and the team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks will be named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer! I personally am so passionate about our campaign because my grandfather has Hodgkin’s lymphoma and has been very blessed with how great his chemo treatment went and how well he has been recovering. He will hopefully be able to be treated using one of the new FDA approved drugs from last year. That just shows how much this campaign affects the lives of so many people in the world! I want to fundraise so that many more people suffering from any type of cancer can have just as great of a treatment and recovery that he has had.

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
