Team's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Feb 07, 2022

We, Ann Marie, Catherine, and Greer are juniors at North Augusta, have been nominated to run as co-candidates in the 2022 Students of the Year campaign in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Students of the Year is a leadership development program for high school students who compete in a 7-week fundraising campaign designed to raise awareness and funds for blood cancers. Together with our team, Team Jacket Advocates, we plan to raise $15,000 in the 7 weeks from January 27 – March 18.  We know this is an ambitious undertaking, but we are incredibly passionate about this cause.

Ann Marie Partl’s Cause: Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer at some point. For my family, that was my aunt. She passed away 5 years ago from breast cancer that metastasized. My aunt is the reason I am so passionate about raising money for cancer research. I am signed up to save lives because I know the hardships that cancer patients and their families go through, and I believe that no one should have to go through those struggles. LLS is a wonderful organization that raises money for blood cancer, but the treatments that are funded and researched also go to help other types of cancer. I am very excited to be working with LLS to learn more about blood cancer and grow in my business and leadership skills. I am proud to run in this influential campaign in memory of my aunt, so I am asking for your support!

Catherine Newman’s Cause: Like many people my family has been impacted by cancer. I am blessed to say that my grandfather is a survivor of colorectal cancer, however, I know there are many people and families who do not have this privilege. I want every cancer fighter to be able to say that they are a survivor like my grandfather, so for that I am teaming up with LLS to find a cure for blood cancer and other forms. Blood cancer research is the gateway into many other forms of cancer research. This is because the blood is accessible and can be easily tested, unlike many tumors involved in other forms of cancer. I am fighting with LLS to cure blood cancer, and better yet, cancer overall.

Greer Worley’s Cause: Everyone is impacted by cancer at some point in their life.  Although blood cancer has not directly impacted my life, other types of cancer have impacted me and my family. Therefore, I will take every action to find a cure to any type of cancer that is out there! LLS is not only passionate, but also determined to cure blood cancer and help the lives of the ones that have been affected by blood cancer. So, I am fighting with LLS to research and support the cure to blood cancer, and I would like to ask for your support to help me reach that goal!

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, our efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!

All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
