Team's Students of the Year Fundraiser
We, Jules Callahan and Sara Marie Miller, are very excited to announce that we have been nominated as candidates to lead a team for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year Campaign. The Students of the Year campaign (SOY) is a seven-week fundraising initiative led by high school students to raise money and awareness for LLS. We would very much appreciate your support of our campaign and LLS’s mission to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and their families as they battle Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Myeloma. We have been given an opportunity to help others and we cannot do it without your support.
Jules’s Why: As many of you know, I lost both my grandfather, Leon Zimmerman, and Aunt Julie, my dad's sister, in 2020 to cancer. This makes me especially passionate to try to find a cure for patients that have a cancer diagnosis. In addition, my personal connection to blood cancer is through a friend at Wesleyan School who was diagnosed with Leukemia. With strong support and determined strength, my friend has achieved remission. This is a reminder of how important it is to continue to invest in cancer research. These individuals are serving as my WHY; my inspiration over this seven-week journey.
Sara Marie’s Why: This is my first year participating in the LLS Students of the Year Campaign. I am excited to have the opportunity to raise life-saving funds to help find cures for different types of cancers. In my family, we have had several cancer diagnoses over the years, including most recently, my paternal grandfather. Also, my maternal grandfather is living with a rare blood disorder. We are grateful for existing life-saving treatments that are helping my family members. It is important to me to give back by working to make a difference in the lives of others. I hope you will join me!
Our campaign runs from January 9th to February 26th, 2022, and our goal is to raise $70,000 to help eradicate blood cancer. Yes, you read that correctly, $70,000 in 7 weeks, which will go directly to support LLS. We have assembled a team of 10 students, many of whom have been impacted directly or indirectly by Leukemia or other cancers. These personal ties give us the motivation to help make a difference on their behalf.
We thank you in advance for supporting this incredible cause, and please remember, every bit counts!
Sincerely,
JulesCallahan and Sara Marie Miller
