As we begin our 7-week campaign, we wanted to share a little bit more with you about our team, Secure the Cure 2.0 and our motivation to raise these life-saving funds for the mission of LLS.

As co-candidates, we are leading a team of our peers. From January 3rd to February 20th, our team is seeking to raise $250,000 for LLS. This is an ambitious undertaking, but we are incredibly passionate about this cause and know our team members will help us rise to the challenge. 

Like many of you, all three of us have close connections to cancer. Each of us has a parent who has won the battle against cancer. We want to make sure that we are the last generation that endures the difficult challenge of cancer, and we want to make a change in honor of our parents: Evan Appel, Sharla Kahn, and Tracy Seitz. With that being said, we view Students of the Year as an opportunity to stand up in the fight against cancer by raising funds for such an amazing organization that is at the forefront of the cancer-curing game.

As we approach our kickoff date of January 3, 2021, we wanted to share a little bit more with you about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Students of the Year and our team, Secure the Cure 2.0.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: A global leader in the fight to end cancer, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is committed to blood cancer patients and their families. LLS's mission is "research, education and support, and policy and advocacy" and the organization works tirelessly to put blood cancer patients and their families first. Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested nearly 1.3 billion dollars in cutting-edge blood cancer research, funding breakthroughs that have advanced lifesaving treatments and cures that now help patients with other cancers and diseases. Through their signature fundraising campaigns, like Students of the Year and Person of the Year, LLS is able to raise both support and awareness for their mission. 

Students of the Year: Students of the Year (SOY) is a leadership development program for high school students seeking to make an impact in the fight against cancer. Set as a seven-week philanthropic competition that begins January 3rd, students lead a team of their peers to raise awareness and funds for blood cancers. The funds raised directly support LLS. Prior to the kickoff date, students have been learning leadership, business and fundraising skills.
