My name is Cameron Hines and I am running for LLS' 2021 Lehigh Valley Student of the Year. I became involved in this program after learning several of my friends and teachers have been affected by blood cancer in recent years. The impact leukemia and lymphoma can have on individuals especially hit home for me when I learned my 12th grade English teacher lost his brother-in-law to this disease just months ago. Seeing that I was just accepted to my dream school -- Cornell University -- I decided now would be an optimal time to help join the fight against this disease.

Blood cancer is unique because of its curability: the survivability rate for this disease has increased from 49% in 1975 to 70% today, all because of the public's generous support. To continue increasing the survivability rate, improving patients' quality of life, and ensuring research can continue for years to come, I'd like to help LLS raise as much as possible.
