Tres Yolos Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 19, 2021

This picture was taken during dad's chemo treatment, at this point he had lost all of his hair except his eyebrows. Even though he was fighting cancer, everyone was happy he was out of the hospital and home, able to hold Sophie and smile together again!

Colin Shaved his Head with Dad During Treatment

Jan 19, 2021

This is Colin and dad in the hospital together. Dad had to shave his head before chemo and Colin wouldn't let him do it alone, so they both shaved it all off! Even at 3, Colin knew that family was stronger than cancer.

Tres's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 19, 2021

Hello, and welcome to the Tres Yolos fundraising page!

We are Sophie and Colin Murray, and with the help of 14 other amazing team members, we are working diligently in order to raise money and cure blood cancer! We are running in honor of our father who crushed cancer in 2007 when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. My brother and I were only 2 and 3 years old when he was diagnosed and it has forever changed our lives. We hope that with your help and generosity, no more families have to fight cancer just like ours did, and no more kids have to worry about losing their own parent to the rigorous battle of cancer.

The team name of “Tres Yolos” was derived from our dad’s 2015 campaign for Man of the Year as team “Yolo”, and our aunts 2019 campaign for Woman of the Year as “Yolo is Back” in 2019. This makes us the third team in our family to support LLS. Between our dad and aunt, they collectively raised a little over $200,000. This means that if our team raises $50,000 we can proudly say our family has raised a quarter of a million dollars to fight blood cancer. We know that with the help of our family, friends, and community as a whole we will reach $50,000, but it should not stop there. Our stretch goal is $100,000 in hopes of breaking our family record.

The Student of the Year campaign is not about our team, not about past teams before us, or future teams after us. This campaign is even about more than curing cancer. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society strives to go further than find cures, but to makes these treatments less invasive and destructive, as well as adapting treatments to kids and increasing survival rates. This organization gives high school students like us an opportunity to give back to our community, to grow as leaders, stand strong as role models for others, and make a difference in people’s lives. LLS saved our father’s life and gave him a chance to be the extraordinary father he is today. Now, we have the ability to make the same impact on other families and fund a cure so that no one ever has to hear the life-altering words “you have cancer.” again.

Please continue to support LLS and donate to our page throughout our campaign that ends March 11th! We will be posting updates throughout to keep you all involved so feel free to visit our page as often as you would like! Together, let’s crush cancer!
