Pauline Hartman | Fight With All Your Might
Pauline's Students of the Year Fundraiser
In 2017, when I was in 7th grade, my Uncle Billy, 53 years old at the time, was diagnosed with a rare and complicated form of Leukemia. It was a random string of cancer, nothing to do with his health and nothing to do with genetics in our family. Our family was shocked. There were points during his battle with cancer where he was on death's door and points where he looked and felt almost normal. Through hundreds of treatments and visits to the hospital, his pain was unbearable and heartbreaking for me and my family to watch him suffer through. My Aunt Rita, being close to a perfect match, generously gave a bone marrow transfusion to assist in my uncle's efforts to recover. However, over this past summer, my Uncle Billy became so sick and full of pain that the doctors said he only had a few weeks to live. Living with that much pain was not the way he wanted to live so he accepted his fate. He passed away on July 4th this summer and I wanted to run my campaign in his honor, assisting in any way that I can to prevent other blood cancer patients from going through the pain and hardship he went through. My uncle lived in Delaware, so the Delaware chapter of LLS is close to my heart. And being an Archmere student, I am driven to be a leader and strive to help and care for others. Any donation to my campaign would be greatly appreciated as all the money goes to an incredible cause, one that is extremely close to my heart.

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. ~Mother Teresa Good luck, Pauline, with your fund raising. What a great cause in memory of your uncle.

Dear Pauline, My family is so proud of you. Your words about blood diseases made my eyes sting with tears. You wrote so beautifully. I have a dear friend receiving his bone marrow transplant this March. He has been through so much already, and I know your Uncle Billy had been, too. I know Uncle Billy is with you as you fight with patients and their families who are going through this battle. What a blessing you are to this world, and to the earthly memory of your Uncle. He lives! Love, The Schweitzer Family

Billy was a special person, and his loss was felt by all who knew him. The disease came out of nowhere, and he fought with everything available, but to no avail. Supporting programs such as Pauline's 'Fight With All Your Might' will assist in the research for a cure, as well as advances in treatments currently administered, during the interim until a cure or prevention is discovered. Billy would be proud to be a part of this program.
