Students of the Year Northern Delaware
Sophia Mitchell | Tatnall's Trio - Buzzing Against Blood Cancer
Welcome to Sophia Mitchell's SOY Fundraising Page!
Today more than a million Americans are fighting a daily battle with blood cancers and every 9 minutes another person unwillingly joins the fight. I have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the battle and help those fighting blood cancer.
I am honored to say that I was selected to be a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2020 Student of the Year campaign and I could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families across the country. I am proud to lead a campaign team to work towards our goal to raise as much money as possible during the next 7 weeks - from January 24th to March 14th, 2020.
I have been personally impressed by the fight of a 5 year old girl in my very own school. Emily was diagnosed in February of 2018 with lymphoma. I can not begin to imagine what it would be like for me or my family face a struggle like this. Emily has been the epitome of strength and resilience through her fight with lymphoma and has changed my view on how just one person can make a difference in their community, no matter what they're fighting for. Emily is bright, bubbly, and loves to sing and play on the playground with her best friends. She loves going to school. To put it simply, she values life. She touches everyone around her with her joy and giving spirit. She has set an example for my friends and me to be thankful for what we have.
My grandmother is another connection that I have to lymphoma. My grandmother passed away from blood cancer the week that I was born. Her goal was to meet me, and she fulfilled it, but it saddens me that I was never able to have a relationship with her. I am hopeful that the money we are raising will help to find a cure so others will conquer their battle.
Sadly, blood cancers are something we cannot stop yet, but Student of the Year candidates in Northern Delaware are coming together to put our best fundraising foot forward to raise $500,000 in honor of all those fighting blood cancer.
I am writing today to ask for your support in my efforts to help LLS in its mission to ensure access to cures and treatments for blood cancers.
Here is how you can be part of the cure…
My campaign to be The Student of the Year is all about dollars raised and I am asking you today to join me in this ambitious campaign. I have until March 14, 2020 to reach my goal. I enclosed a donation form and envelope to make it easy for you to send your tax-deductible contribution: checks made out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Or, if you prefer, you can go to my campaign website and make your contribution there: (Insert your personal fundraising webpage link)
Your donation will prevent someone from losing a child, sibling, and parent or loved one, and allow LLS to continue funding lifesaving research.
Please reach out to others you know and ask them to contribute as well. I have found that so many of the people I talk to about my campaign have a connection to blood cancer and want to support LLS.
I want to thank you in advance for your generous support.
Sincerely,
Sophia Mitchell
2020 Student of the Year Candidate
