Students of the Year Delaware
Callie Skurla | Callie's Cancer Kickers
Welcome to Callie Skurla's SOY Fundraising Page!
Since 1949, LLS has supported remarkable scientists whose work has led to breakthrough advances in blood cancer treatments. To date, LLS has invested more than $1.2 billion in cutting-edge research, funding nearly all of today’s most promising advances, and bringing us closer to cures. LLS is also the leading source of free blood cancer information, education, and support for survivors, families, and healthcare professionals. In 2018, LLS was able to provide over $195k to Delaware patients in medical co-pay assistance and an additional $11K in travel assistance.
I am 15 years old and a sophomore at the Delaware Military Academy. I am very honored to have been nominated as a candidate for the 2019 Student of the Year Campaign. Students of the Year is a philanthropic leadership development program for exemplary high school students. During the campaign, participants foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The money we raise will help many patients and families by assisting with financial needs and emotional support throughout their battle. The money also goes to funding life-saving research for cancers such as Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and Myeloma.
I’ve decided to take on this challenge because, as many of us have, I have been touched by cancer in many ways. Both of my great Aunts are breast cancer survivors, my Cousin is a colon cancer survivor, my Uncle is a lymphoma survivor, and most recently, my Grandmother learned of her own breast cancer diagnosis.
Knowing their stories and having these close personal connections to cancer, I decided that taking on the challenge of LLS’s Student of the Year Campaign was the perfect way I could honor my family’s battles with cancer and give back helping to make a difference in cancer.
For 7 weeks, beginning on January 31, 2019, I will be competing with 12 other candidates in Delaware for Student of the Year. My goal is to raise $50,000 for the LLS Mission and the fight to cure blood cancer.
My team and I, Callie's Cancer Kickers, are excited to raise money for this wonderful organization. I hope you will join us and help support LLS during my 2019 Student of the Year Campaign. I am so grateful to be a part of the fight!
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
