My Story-

Hi! My name is Abby Cantwell and I am a candidate for Student Visionaries of the Year 2024 for Austin Texas! There is a word that hits me very, very hard as well as the rest of my family. That word is Cancer. But not just me, millions of families worldwide are caused pain hearing this word too. I want to raise money for these cancers because of my mom. 

My mom and I are incredibly close and I love the days we spend together. So I'm sure you can imagine how devistated I felt to find out she had Cancer one summer night in 2020. She was only 37 years old, the week before her dad (my grandpa) unexpectedly passed, and to be honest I really didnt know how to feel. She had to have all of her lymph nodes removed on her left side as well as a double mastectomy. But, this was only the first time. The second time she came in my room to inform me it was back and that I needed to keep my head held high. She now is in 1 year remission from the second time and is Cancer Free! 

I'm here so that so many others can hear those words too, "Cancer Free". Together we can help so many going through these terrible blood cancers. Help me put an end to that painful, horrible disease so that it cannot affect so many families and individuals who haven't yet lived out the life they deserve.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
