Tyler's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 06, 2021

During the fall of 2016, my grandfather was diagnosed with acute myloid leukemia. A few short months later, he passed on Christmas day. In the picture above, I am enjoying the snacks provided at the hospital as I spent time with him while he underwent tough chemotherapy treatments. These treatments were part of a clinical trial which he had decided to participate in. My grandfather wanted to find a cure not only to help himself but also to help others who had this terrible disease. I too am seeking to help LLS and its partners find a cure in memory of him. Any donation small or large can help us reach our goal of ending blood cancers once and for all.

Tyler's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 07, 2021

I am honored to participate as a candidate for the 2021 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to support my team and am raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

I am a multiple myeloma patient and am thrilled to contribute to Tyler's Student of the Year campaign. His grandfather, Harry Martin, left us far too soon. May the LLS continue their tireless work in finding a cure for all blood cancers, as they ease the lives of patients and their families through exhaustive instruction, counseling, and financial support.

Hi Tyler...what a sensational and sentimental photo of you with Harry. As you saw from my previous message, Harry and Marianne are dear, lifelong friends. I have so many fond memories of visits with Harry and Marianne at the "Martin Marriott." Harry and I had many discussions during my visits, including around his computer, watching stock quotes posting and we joked about doing our "share" with investments. Speaking of "sharing," thank you for leading and sharing this LLS fundraiser. Harry was one of the most "sharing and caring" persons, I have know. Here's to you, Harry!

Hey, Tyler-Thanks for supporting a great cause. 7 years ago, I asked your Grandma Marianne to donate to LLS for a 100-mile bike ride I did for the cause. She did. Then, sadly enough, she would be directly affected when she lost Harry to the very same disease. It is now my privilege to bless her in return, through your efforts. Dare to believe that there is a good God in the universe with his hand on everything that is good. Dare to believe in "paying it forward". Dare to believe that being kind to others ultimately brings blessings to you.
