Welcome to Team Kickin' Cancer's SOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 10, 2020

The Kickin’ Cancer team is honored to participate in the 2020 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each dollar we raise will go towards improving the lives of patients and their families through research, advocacy, and support channels. Our mission is not only to raise as much money as we can but also educating our community on blood cancers.

Leukemia, a type of blood cancer, has presented itself as the most common form of cancer in children and teens. The fight against blood cancer is devastating and prevalent in our communities.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provides their support through funding cutting-edge research, this research has not only helped patients of blood cancer but those with other cancers and serious diseases. Since it’s beginnings, LLS has created a strong impact by quadrupling the survival rate of blood cancer.

In a world where every 3 minutes a child or adult is diagnosed with blood cancer,  LLS has set its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.  Here are some of the ways in which LLS helps:
- LLS runs several types of financial programs, including co-pay assistance programs, travel expenses.
- LLS specialists educate patients and their care-providers and help them find the best suited clinical trials. This is of critical importance when someone was just diagnosed and does not know where to start. In 2019, more than 600 patients were guided through clinical trials and over 20,000 inquiries were answered by LLS specialists.
- LLS volunteers sent 8,400 letters to Congress in support of the Cancer Drug Parity Act in 2019. approved by the FDA were funded by LLS.
- LLS funds cutting edge research grants and therapy acceleration programs. Out of the 53 treatments approved by the FDA since 2017,  LLS funded 46  treatments. Precision medicine, immunotherapy, and blood cancer prevention are lines of research that LLS is extensively supporting.
- LLS is very focused on finding cures for children’s blood cancers (40% of pediatric cancers), including Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Together we have the opportunity to take the next chance with finding the cure. All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
