Katie for a Cure
Fourteen years ago I was diagnosed. Twelve years ago I was in remission. Today, I’m giving back.
When I was two years old I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and being that young it was hard for me to grasp what was really going on. I am now sixteen and am truly grateful to say that I am a survivor. Being two years old at the time, the fact that I had cancer was just something I knew and didn’t really think much of, and it wasn’t until I grew up when I realized how big of a deal this really was. I began to have a deeper understanding of the huge impact this had on my life back then as well as now; how my family must have felt, what my body went through, how many other people go through the same thing each year. I felt helpless knowing that although my struggle is over, there are people all over the country who continue to fight for their lives. But thanks to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, less and less people will have to suffer the same way I did.
This year I am participating in the Students of the Year fundraiser, to raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and their battle to end cancer. The SoY program is aimed toward high school students who have a drive to further the research to cure cancer, as well as arm students with tools and skills to learn how to fundraise, spread the word, and raise money for LLS. I am extremely fortunate to have this opportunity this year, as my personal connection to the battle of cancer is a driving factor to help me do anything I can to stop the disease.
My team is called Katie for a Cure, as that is my end goal, that the money that I will raise will eventually lead to a cure. But I can’t do it alone. Your donation (no matter how big or small) with ultimately lead to the bigger picture: curing cancer.
Thank you, and hopefully with your help we can beat cancer, together.

Meet Me!
Hi!
I'm Katie, I'm 16 years old, and I'm a cancer survivor.
I'm so honored to be part of the Students of the Year fundraiser this year, and cannot wait to get started. Keep checking back for more updates and to help me in this journey!
Thank you for your support!
Welcome to Katie Broderick's SOY Fundraising Page!
I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
