Hi! I’m Olivia Taccone and I’m a junior at Chatham High School. I am very excited to share with you that I am a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year fundraising campaign. From cutting-edge research and precision medicine innovations to legislative victories that improve access to therapies for cancer patients, LLS plays a leading – and often pioneering – role in the fight against blood cancers.  Since 2000, approximately 40 percent of all U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved cancer drugs were for blood cancer, and some are now used to treat other forms of cancer and non-malignant diseases.  A “win” for blood cancers, therefore, is a win for the cancer community overall. Over the next seven weeks, I will be working with my team to raise money for LLS in its efforts to fight blood cancers. Leukemia is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in children and young adults. 

This cause is incredibly important to me because I lost my Grandpa and uncle to cancer. I encourage you to join me in supporting LLS and the fight against blood cancer by making a donation. I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
 
As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
