THIS IS MEGHAN'S STORY…
AND THIS IS MY STORY...
In June of 2020, I started feeling queasy and discovered a lump in my abdomen. One doctor appointment led to another that led to another. After two weeks of appointments, I was casually relaxing at the pool with my three children and several friends when I received a phone call that would change everything. A week later, a biopsy was done to confirm what they already knew: I was officially diagnosed with a Grade 3A Follicular Lymphoma- which is treatable but not curable.
Chemotherapy began right away. Four plus months of chemo went by fairly easily with limited side effects compared to what I feared before it began. I wasn’t lying in bed nauseous all day, I didn’t lose my hair, and I was able to continue life on a modified level. There were days when it wasn’t all peachy, but in general, it was not too bad at all. By November, I was able to ring the bell and then in December, we got test results back confirming that it had been successfully treated. I was one of the lucky ones, so grateful and blessed with the post cancer glow of understanding what is truly important in my life.
Tremendous advances in medicine over the past several years have certainly helped make my cancer journey easier. Doctors and researchers are constantly working to improve treatments and hopefully find a cure. With the first $50,000 Meghan raises, she will be able to name a research grant in honor of her mom, Ginger. Wow, what a tribute and legacy to her mom! I am so proud to support Meghan as she runs for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Student of the Year!
Like Ginger, my kids were 13, 11, and 9 when I was being treated for a blood cancer and it is a scary time for everyone involved. I work to beat cancer in honor of Ginger and the other moms that may someday get that call that they, or their young child, has Leukemia or Lymphoma. Please join us in raising money to help. Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. We CAN make a difference. And we WILL with your support!
Meghan’s campaign for Student of the Year concludes February 24, 2022. There are two ways you can help me help Meghan to reach her goal before then and BEAT CANCER!
- You can make a tax-deductible donation at the top of this page
- You may also mail a donation payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: Donations can be sent to Meghan McNally at 1811 Westfield Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
*I will be sharing my story on Sunday, January 30 via zoom during the Night of Giving. Thank you to all of the friends and family who have already donated on that link!! For more information about the Night of Giving, click here - https://events.lls.org/cpa/cpasoy22/nightofgiving
