Hi all! This year I am so excited to be working with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with their Student of the Year program. I am working with Logan Conrad on this seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year.

As you all know, this is a cause that has affected me and my family for the last twelve years. I am so lucky as a three time leukemia surivivor to now have this opportunity to help other patients currently facing this battle. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has been supporting clinical trials that are literally saving lives. Almost five years ago, I was lucky enough to get into one of the clinical trials - Car-T Cell Therapy at MD Anderson in Houston Texas. Because of many hard working doctors, scientists, and funds that support these trials, I am over 4 years cancer free (which is the longest I have been able to be in remission.) This trial is now FDA approved and is available at more hosipitals in our country to help many other leukemia patients, both children and adults.  In addition , drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
