Hello Friends and Family!

I am excited to tell you that I have joined my niece, Maddie Pecak, in her mission to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year campaign! From now through March 15, local Chicagoland high school students and their teams compete to raise as much money as possible to cure blood cancers.

I joined the team because I saw the courage and strength that Maddie showed throughout her treatment fighting her leukemia. Not only was she fighting cancer as a teenager (which we all know is challenging in and of itself), but was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Why was that more difficult? See below why (based on conversation with Maddie and her family):

● Maddie could only have one parent at a doctor’s appointment, chemo treatment or any other life-saving appointment.
● Isolation from her friends because of the pandemic. At a time where your friends can be there to lend a shoulder to cry on, make her laugh or just go shopping like a normal teenager was not available to her because of COVID.
● While undergoing chemo, a person’s immune system is compromised, and with a deadly pandemic, Maddie’s exposure to people was scarier 10X more than anyone who was not undergoing treatment for leukemia.
I also got involved because every 3 minutes another person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Unfortunately, 30% don’t survive 5 years after their diagnosis. This needs to change. That’s why I’m working with LLS to help find a cure!  Since 1949, LLS has invested over $1.6 billion to advance life-saving research. Aside from research, they provide education and support for families dealing with cancer and ensure that patients have access to treatments. I am so proud to be a part of Student Visionaries of the Year. With your help, we can keep fighting for patients in need.
Please help team “Blood, Sweat & Cures” to reach our goal of raising $30,000 by making a tax-deductible donation. You can make a tax-deductible donation online by clicking HERE

Or, you can write a check made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and write my name in the memo section. I’ll make sure the check gets to LLS on time, please mail checks to: Bridget Anderson, 1462 Inverrary Drive, Naperville, IL 60563. If you prefer to donate another way like through a donor-advised fund or through your company, let me know, and I can get you the info.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

Sincerely,

Bridget W. Anderson

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
