Student Visionaries of the Year Chicago

Sakeena's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
I joined LLS because my grandmother passed away 11 years ago from leukemia. Before she passed away, she participated in trials to help find a cure for her condition and that was a huge inspiration for me to pursue this.
I also got involved because every 3 minutes another person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Unfortunately 33% don’t survive 5 years after their diagnosis. This needs to change. That’s why I’m working with LLS to help find a cure!
Here is how you can be part of the cure…
I am competing with several other Student Visionaries of the Year candidates in Illinois and together we will each put our best fundraising foot forward in honor of all those fighting blood cancer. I am asking you today to join me in this ambitious campaign. I have until March 18, 2023 to reach my goal of raising $25,000.
Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.
I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.
This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:
- Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
- Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
- Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

In loving memory of our mother, an Angel and a Warrior. She was a petite woman with a small frame, soft, sweet, gentle and kind, with the emotional and psychological strength of a giant. She lived joyously and loved fully, and was loved by all who knew her. She remained active, taking care of my father, giving hope, joy and inspiration to others, despite suffering from stage 3 breast cancer from the age of 50 and then stage 4 metastatic bone cancer 20 years later. She laughed, loved, and remained hopeful and positive until she passed away peacefully on November 30, 2022. God willing she is enjoying the fruits of heaven alongside our father, her husband of 62 years who passed away exactly 3 months before her on August 30, 2022.

In loving memory of our father, who, in the words of his granddaughter was an “honorable, noble, pious, humble man, a true role model of character to emulate”, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He passed away on August 30, 2022. His beloved wife of 62 years followed him to heaven, God willing, when she joined him, passing away on November 30, 2022. God willing, he is earning rewards in heaven for not only fulfilling with love and dedication his familial roles, but for his many students’ lives he touched working as a passionate college professor of the biological sciences until the age of 80. No doubt, many of his students have gone on to do work with cancer patients and contributing to research work toward finding cures to cancers. Sakeena, may God reward you immensely and give you much success in the work you are doing.
