Jeanne's Student Visionaries of the Year Chicago Fundraiser

Feb 25, 2023

I'm honored to be part of my neighbor Mary Robinson's Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign on team Fighting for Families. I find it inspiring that this campaign is being run by high school students that have committed to fundraising for a 7 week period, between January 28th until March 18th. The money raised will provide the funding for research and better treatments.

I am fighting in honor of my sister Margie Shiel. Margie started her fight with leukemia in 2018. During a routine physical she was diagnosed with CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia) From 2018 - July 2022 Margie has tried every drug available to beat leukemia. They worked, until they didn't. In July 2022 she had a stem cell transplant. She had a perfect match from my brother Andy! Since July, Margie has been isolating in her home with her husband. It's been an extremely long hard road for her, and her family. She has been meeting her markers/goals. Her 100 days of isolation ended in November. Now she continues to stay isolated with a few perks like opened windows and pequod pizza! I know my sister will come out of all this as a strong leukemia free survivor!

Her motto is, ALL WILL BE WELL (and it will) Please donate to LLS to help other families fight !

Thank You!

     *Update edit.

My beautiful, sweet sister Margie lost her fight against cancer on Febuary 24th.  It's hard rereading my mission statement. I was so full of positive certain hope that she was going to be with me for years to come. Once again cancer was the cruel victor, and I'm completely devastated.

                                           Love You Margie

Jeanne's Student Visionaries of the Year Chicago Fundraiser

Dec 02, 2022

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
