Kelly's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Dec 03, 2022

It is with great excitement that we announce the Laughter Is the Best Medicine Tour to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Coordinated by a former Prospect High School graduate and now professional comedian, Liz Zagone, The Red Barn will be hosting two benefit shows.  The first show is on December 21st and will be for an adult audience.  Line up includes Liz Zagone, Steven Haas (also a Prospect grad), Mike Atcherson, and Jeff Brumfield. The second show is on December 28th and will be for a high school and up audience.  Line up for that show includes Liz Zagone, Tyler Fowler, Vik Pandya and Christina Lundin.

We are asking for a $25 donation per ticket. When making your donation, in the comment section please notate whether you are making a donation for the adult show or student show by putting "adult" or "student" in the comments.

Each show can accomodate approximately 90 people.  We will make updates on this page if we have reached capactity.

Thank you for your support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!  While they conduct the research to find better and more tolerable medications for kids and adults fighting blood cancer, certainly we all can agree that there is no better medicine than laughter.

Kelly's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Oct 24, 2022

My family has been involved in the fight against blood cancer (the most prevalent type of cancer in children) since our friend Molly was diagnosed in 2010. Sadly, Molly was the first young cancer fighter we knew but we've heard stories of so many other kids diagnosed over the past 12 years through our group, Made By Mary.

I decided to make fighting blood cancer part of my personal mission after receiving an award in middle school named after a former student who passed away from leukemia when he was in eighth grade, Matthew Ives. To honor Matt and Molly, I participated in the 2021 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Students of the Year campaign and raised over $50,000 for blood cancer research and treatments. The campaign had such an impact on me that I joined the student leadership team for the 2022 campaign and mentored two candidates including the winning team!

While I am in high school (currently a junior), I will continue to partner with LLS to raise money and awareness for kids fighting blood cancers. In 2023, I am again on the leadership team for the Student Visionaries campaign and serving as the fundraising expert for the candidates. In addition to volunteering behind the scenes to lead their efforts, I want to raise the money to help the Illinois Student Visionaries teams meet their goal of donating nearly $1,000,000!!  Please help me to raise $5000 by donating through this fundraising page.

Thank you in advance for helping me meet my fundraising goal! I can't wait for the day when we finally find The Answer to Cancer.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
