I am competing for the title Student of the Year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This is the 8^th annual, 7-week, nationwide, fundraising competition. My goal is to raise $50,000 in honor of my brother, Jared, and in memory of my grandfather, Edward Siegel. My grandfather died at age 62 of Small Cell Follicular non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma before I was born and I never got to meet him. This is upsetting because I was told he was an amazing person who meant the world to his family. I wish I could have met him. 

When Jared was 16, he was diagnosed with Nodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma. This took a huge toll on our family and made us value each other and the time we have to spend together. He has been cancer free for over 7 years and I am so proud of everything he has done in life. He is 23 years old now and we are exactly six years and fifteen minutes apart. We have the same birthday which only makes us feel closer. I am asking for you or your business to sponsor or donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in my Team’s name. 

Some facts about blood cancer:  

• More than 1.2 million people are living with, or in remission from blood cancers; 
• 33% of blood cancer patients do not survive five years after diagnosis; 
• An average of almost 3,700 children and young adults are diagnosed with leukemia each year.
• The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has invested $1.3 billion into cancer research.
• 78% of all funds raised by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society go directly to research, educational support and advocacy of patient rights.
