My name is Jenna Khalil and I am honored to share that I am running as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Students of the Year program. In this program, high school students like myself all around the country are working to raise as much money as we can in order to support LLS's mission to cure cancer. As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any organization in the world. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. Every facet of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases.

My team and I are competing with several other Student of the Year candidates in Illinois and together we will each put our best fundraising foot forward in honor of all those fighting blood cancer. I am asking you today to join us in this ambitious campaign. We have from January 23 until March 13, 2021 (just seven weeks) to reach our goal of raising $15,000 

I am involved in this endeavor because I am intent on making a difference! With a sister as a surgeon, and a brother in medical school, I have been inspired by their decision to devote their lives to careers focused on saving lives. Over the past few years, I have gotten involved in other local charitable organizations, which have fostered my love for helping others. If I could make just a fraction of the difference that my siblings have made, then participating in the Students of the Year program would be a perfect opportunity. I am confident that regardless of the amount of money my team and I are able to raise, it will help any adult or child battling cancer to obtain a better life, but I know that our goal is attainable which is why we need your help.

There is no doubt that cancer affects many people and their families, including many of those on my team which is why it is so important to us that we help find a cure. We realize that there are plenty of worthy causes and organizations for you to donate to, however your donation would be greatly appreciated by the millions of patients and their families touched by blood cancer.
