Cooking Up a Cure!
Dear Friends, Family, and Friends of Family,
My name is Addie Daab, and I am currently a Junior in high school at Walter Payton College Prep in Chicago. For the next seven weeks (January 23–March 13), I am participating in the Students of the Year fundraising competition to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). LLS’s mission is: “Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”
I have family members and friends who have battled leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers, and because of treatments like those researched and developed by LLS, they have all survived. However, I know not every family is as lucky. Every 3 minutes in the U.S., someone is diagnosed with blood cancer, and every 9 minutes someone dies because of it. I am extremely grateful for all of the memories I have made with my family and friends since their treatments, and I want to help LLS make that a reality for other families.
Everyone who knows me knows how much I love cooking. What most people don’t know is that the blood cancer survivors in my life helped spark this love. For this reason, I have chosen to center my campaign––Cooking Up a Cure!––around food and cooking. Cancer research is like a recipe: all of the necessary ingredients must come together in order for it to work. LLS provides the brilliant minds and top-tier research facilities, but the most important ingredient of all—financial support—comes from compassionate and generous people like you!
I have set the ambitious goal of raising at least $50,000, because at that level, I would have the opportunity to dedicate an entire research portfolio to the people in my life who have struggled with blood cancer. Will you join me in supporting LLS and the life-saving work they are doing? I realize that in this time of COVID-19, we are all faced with making tough choices on where and what to support, but if you are able, I would appreciate your support for LLS and their important work––any amount is greatly appreciated!
Scroll down for a list of the different ways you can donate and help out!
Thank you for your generosity and support. Let’s get cooking!
Addie

LLS & Non-Blood Cancers
Although my Grandpa never battled blood cancer, he did struggle with three other kinds of cancer before passing away. That is why it is so important to me that LLS's blood cancer research leads to treatment advances for other cancers and serious diseases. LLS has funded more than 60% of the blood cancer therapies being used to treat other cancers.

Thanks, Addie, for raising money for this important cause! Our teenage daughter, Elsa, is 13 months into remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma, and we know the research LLS does is crucial to the success of chemotherapy treatments like hers. Our network in the lymphoma world has shown us first-hand that these cancers are still devastating to many children and families. Thanks to Addie and all of you who are supporting this cause!

This donation is as much an act to honor and acknowledge the genuine passion, selflessness and overall high quality of character of Adeline Daab as it is to support the fight against Leukemia & Lymphoma. I am equally excited about supporting the person and the cause which makes the decision to donate twice as easy.
