Students of the Year Chicago
Sandy Woltman | Team Ashley
Welcome to Sandy Woltman's SOY Fundraising Page!
Tough conversation tonight...
95% of childhood cancer survivors suffer longterm and often life threatening illnesses. Ashley said tonight, "Hmm...I wonder what mine will be." That's my Saturday night. What did you do tonight with your kids?
Please donate to Ashley's campaign to help find a cure and SAFER treatments! Every little bit helps. Ashley has already been told that she will need a kidney transplant due to the medications and radiation she received during treatment. She knows that will likely not be the end of her complications. But, she's here. She is a SURVIVOR.
I hope that you NEVER have to hear your child or someone you love has cancer. It's forever life changing.
World Cancer Day
Today is World Cancer Day.
Don't think it can happen to you?
Neither did I.
Ashley never showed ANY signs of being sick until she woke up December 26, 2013, with "the flu." Just a few days later, our lives changed forever.
Ashley had cancer.
Please be part of the solution!
We Must find Better & Safer Treatments!
Please help Ashley's campaign and donate to a great organization--even $5 helps! Donations can be completely ANONYMOUS too! Let's help find a cure and safer treatments!
Leukemia and lymphoma don't discriminate---ANYONE can get it! Any age, race, ethnicity. Thinking you'll never be a cancer parent or it won't affect you? I didn't either. That only happened to someone else's kid....not mine....until it did.
Help Ashley reach her goal by March 7!
This was Ashley about 15 months after she was first diagnosed with leukemia on 1/1/14. She was having a reaction to her meds and felt like hell. These rashes and skin outbreaks were quite common and often resulted in her being hospitalized for fear of graft vs. host disease (GVHD), which can be deadly. She was in the hospital 160+ days in 2014. Luckily, this wasn't GVHD, although she did have it shortly after her transplant.
We must not only find a cure for all blood cancers, but we need better AND safer meds than is what is currently being used. All patients suffer, but it's really hard when it's your own kid.
CANCER SUCKS!
Never Give Up!
Many fears. Many tears. Ashley knows her journey is not over, but she will NEVER give up! GO, ASHLEY!
Let's Get This Fundraiser Started!
Ashley has been nominated for Students of the Year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). During the next 7 weeks, her team will be seeking donations from friends, families, and even strangers, to help LLS find a cure for all blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients during their battle.
As many of you know, Ashley is a survivor of childhood leukemia. She was diagnosed on 1/1/14 at age 11 and fought hard to win the battle. She spent 160+ days in the hospital that year, was given total body radiation, and received a life-saving bone marrow transplant in June 2014 from a total stranger. She was in isolation for 9 months and missed 20 months of school. Today, she continues to battle the lasting effects of the toxic treatment, including chronic kidney disease, which will require a kidney transplant in the future.
I am honored not only to be participating on Ashley’s team, but also to be Ashley’s mom. She is a warrior! She is tougher than me and continues to be a champion in everything she does. Seeing her go through her treatment was tough…but she did it…and with a smile.
Please help in any way you can. Not only to help Ashley reach her goal, but to help end blood cancer!
